MOCDC, Inc. is a comprehensive program which strives to address the needs of the child and the family.  Specifically, the program is made up of the following parts:

Education: The prime responsibility of the Educational Consultant is to work with the center staff to devise a program that best meets the goals and objectives of the curriculum and the program.  To accomplish this, we will attempt to hire the best qualified persons for the various positions and will work with center staff to effectively provide the experiences, facilities, challenges, supervision and direction which can help to assure that children receive relevant and constructive learning experiences in each center.  And, he/she will determine effective means for the professional growth and development of each staff member.

The Educational Consultant’s responsibilities also include providing assistance and guidance in developmentally appropriate ways to plan for, and work with, children, parents and other personnel.  She/He will continue to develop and monitor the assessment systems for all children.  She/He will help staff to recognize early signs of behavior or learning and developmental delays and provide support and training for staff to work with children with special needs.  Referrals are sent to the Birth to Three, the Board of Education and other appropriate agencies after receiving parental permission.

Social Services: The prime responsibility of the Social Service Staff is the family.  The Social Services Department will work with both parents and staff to ensure that children and families are receiving all of the services we offer.  The Social Services Department’s responsibilities include intake procedures, re-determination of eligibility for child care services, referrals to community agencies when appropriate, and encouragement of parent involvement in the program.  The Social Services staff also will share relevant information with parents and staff to ensure that the child care program is meeting each child’s individual needs.  Each center will be assigned an intake worker.  You should feel free to call on him/her at anytime if you have a question or problem.  Their offices are located at the Central Office at the Richard A. Battles Day Care Center.  If you wish to make a scheduled appointment with the intake worker, please call the main office at (860) 549-4380.

Social Worker: The program has a Social Worker who gives each new family an orientation to the program.  The Social Worker regularly visits the centers to check on the child’s adjustment to the center.  The Social Worker is involved in supporting staff and parents whenever there is a need.  She/He is available for after hour’s meetings either at the center or at the child’s home.

The Social Worker leads the parent-teacher involvement programs.  She/He also monitors family satisfaction with program services through annual family surveys.

MOCDC values working closely with community agencies and supportive groups throughout the Greater Hartford area.  Collaboration with these local agencies and documented with written interagency agreements contracts that detail specific responsibilities.  Agreements are reviewed on an annual basis for parent satisfaction and overall ability to meet the year’s goals and objectives.  The program often refers parents and families to outside agencies, documents all of its referrals and follows up with parents to ensure that the requested services are offered.  The goal is to identify the needs of each family and, through a written referral protocol, to connect family members to necessary services.

Health: The program employs a nurse who visits each center weekly.  The nurse supports the staff in monitoring the health and safety of the children.  The nurse checks all children’s physicals, all staff’s physicals and all accident reports.  The nurse is available for consultation on health issues with staff and with parents.

Nutrition: The Department of Education funds the child food program which consists of breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.  The program employs full time cooks to prepare the meals on site for the children.  Weekly menus are posted on the center’s parent board.

All children attending the program must participate in the food program.  Food from home cannot be substituted for other planned menu items.

The program endeavors to serve a variety of foods to meet the nutritional needs of the children during their critical stages of growth.  Included in this variety are fresh fruits and vegetables and dishes representing the diverse backgrounds of the children.

The program consults a registered dietician who reviews all menus to make sure the menus meet the nutritional requirements of the Department of Education.
